Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be our first dedicated automation engineer, responsible for leading the business out of a manual testing only approach. Our team is highly enthusiastic and ready for change, but needs somebody who’s “been there and done it” to light the path. We have exciting challenges in the upcoming year, including productionising new AI features as well as an important language migration.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • You will be the champion for test automation within the business - lead, inspire, educate and motivate
  • You will personally write automated tests to show the team what good looks like
  • You will take the lead on building up our test automation framework and assist with our CI/CD pipeline
  • You will be obsessive about test coverage and methodical in your working practices to ensure the outcomes of what you’re building are measurable
  • Success in your role will reduce regressions, reduce the manual testing workload and enable developers to focus on building exciting new features (and maintain tests for them!)

Required Skills
  • Strong foundation in manual testing
  • Prior experience of test automation framework development from scratch
  • Ability to identify and prioritise key areas of our application for automation, considering change risk and usage profile
  • You are excited to roll up your sleeves and write tests yourself
  • Have a good hold on at least one of these programming languages: JavaScript, PHP, Python, and know your way around Git.
  • Experience with cross-browser, cross-platform and mobile device testing, having written end-to-end browser tests e.g. using Selenium, Playwright, Cypress etc.
  • Good communicator who can work cross-team to drive change
  • Able and willing to coach team members on automation

Desirable Skills
  • You are passionate about technology, enjoy problem solving, live and breathe testing, and obsess about quality!
  • You love to code and want to create elegant solutions that you can be proud of
  • You have used Cucumber, or have worked with Gherkin syntax
  • You have hands-on knowledge of building, running and maintaining a CI/CD pipeline e.g. using GitHub Actions
  • You have previous experience of transitioning a team from manual-only to automation-led
